Challenge Six

Story Type: AU - Angsty - Song Inspired
Timeline: Set in S2, before ‘The Power Transfer’, so it could be Homecoming instead of Prom

Kimberly falls either during gymnastics (meet or practice –your choice) or during a fight, and the injuries are slow to heal –even with her Ranger healing.

• She goes to the Dr to find out why, and why she’s not been feeling like herself lately
• She finds out she’s got ____?____ (you decide what illness, but it should be one where she has to have chemo.)
• Her prognosis is good. They’ve caught it early and they’re using the latest treatment.

The night of the dance Tommy shows up at her house in his tux, bandana on as usual. When Kim’s Mom yells for her, she (and Trini) comes down and starts to tell him she’s “not going looking like this”, when he suddenly takes the bandana off –shocking her into silence- as his hair is GONE!! He had been talking to Jason about doing it, but no one else knew about his plan. Trini and the gang had all stopped by to try one last time to convince her to go. Course that was Jase's idea, as he knew of Tommy's plan and they wanted everyone together when he showed her.

Everyone starts crying, even the boys have tears in their eyes along with huge grins on their faces, as everyone realized the significance of Tommy's actions. Tommy takes great pride in his hair -it's his trademark as much as his green and now white clothing, so for him to shave it all off.... Kim must mean a great deal to him.

• What's Kim's reaction? I wanna see an emotional scene here between the two.

Kim decides to go to the dance and she, Trini, and her mom rush upstairs to get her ready. What happens from here is up to you. You can end it after the dance, or go on with more of the story. I just ask that it not have a depressing ending -ie no dying. But then again, if you really want to go that route, go for it. Angst makes for *great* stories IMO.

*THINGS TO THINK ABOUT*

• What does this illness mean for her as a Ranger?
• What about her gymnastics?
• Her friends reactions to such devastating news... the kids at school... adults in her life.
• Does she let it get her down in the beginning, or does she keep her positive outlook? If so, how long can she keep her spirit up?

This is just an outline, you can really do anything you want with the story. Just listen to the song -I don't think reading the lyrics will give you the same feeling the song does, but it might- and then write whatever comes to mind. I just can't help thinking of Tommy/Kimberly whenever I hear the song. I'd write the story myself, but I have NO medical knowledge, and little time to research it. And I'd LOVE to see this story written. Out of all my challenges, it's the one that I love the most, and would give anything to see written. I'll even offer my services as a Beta if need be. :)

Challenge Seven

Story Type: 'The Letter' AU - Angsty
Timeline: Set in S3, after Kim leaves, possibly sometime around the time of 'the letter', but could be earlier -your choice.
Rating: Any

During phone calls to Kim, Tommy sometimes gets the impression that something's wrong with Kim but she assures him everything is fine, and he believes her. However Kat tells him that in her phone calls with Kim, she has let her know that she's miserable. She doesn't go out, she doesn't have friends; she stays in -missing Tommy- and the others. He finally -after not believing her at first- asks Kim point-blank about it. When she finally admits it to him, he tries to convince her to go out, have fun... but ultimately she doesn't and he comes to a decision.

With Kat's help he decides to break up with Kim, in the hopes that she'll miss them all less and go out, meet new people, have fun. He writes her a letter (I envision it as the exact same letter she sends him, only with the obvious changes -ie bother to sister, etc.) They have NO contact with each other after this. She does however still talk to the others, just nothing is ever said about Tommy and she asked that they NOT say anything to him about her either. She's heartbroken -devastated. They all agree at first, but when it becomes apparent that she's still depressed they go to Tommy and let him know. They think it's time he goes and fixes the mess he made. He's miserable, she's miserable, they need to at least talk to each other.

Possibilities:

• Kim is so upset/distracted that she is messing up and gets hurt. Maybe seriously (like on the show) or maybe just a minor sprained ankle -you choose degree of injury.  *If serious, does Tommy or anyone else find out about it, and go down to be with her?*
• Tommy being distraught and it affecting his Ranger duties. To what extent is up to you. Does he get hurt, does someone else get hurt? So they lose a battle cuz he's distracted? -Your choice.
• Kat telling Tommy about Kim cuz she wanted him for herself and hoping he would break up with Kim. Then after he does, she tries to 'make a move' on him. *If this is the way you go, I'd love for Aisha to find out, and see them get into it. Sorry NOT a Kat fan here.*

Eventually I'd like to see them work it out and get back together, but if done properly and with respect to the couple, I'd be totally cool with them ending up as only friends.

NOTE: I'm actually attempting to write this one, but it's taking a different turn than this challenge, so I'd still LOVE to see someone take this.
